Harper Newell is a Fiber Artist based in Kansas City, Missouri. Her art practice primarily consists of what she calls color field weavings which explore color interactions via individual threads that when woven together create soft, aura like gradients. The meditative quality of the work both in its process and outcome invite the viewer to look within while subtle shifts of bright colors invite them to move left, right, forward, and back in order to better comprehend the implied movement within the work. Newell’s work references the Light and Space movement using colors and titles that reflect on her upbringing in the DIY arts and culture scene in Omaha Nebraska. Newell received a BFA in Fiber in 2020 from the Kansas City Art Institute.
